Livia Marin
Livia Marin creates large-scale installations incorporating objects which are mass-produced and mass-consumed. At the beginning of her career, her work was influenced by the social and political context of Chile in the 1990's when the country was undergoing a transition from the rigid disciplinary regime of 17 years under a dictatorship to a democratic regime marked by a neo-liberal economic agenda.
Marin uses everyday objects to explore the nature of how humans relate to material objects during this historic period is dominated by globalization and standardization. Her work leads the observer to reflect on the relationship humans develop with objects, often unseen, that take care of our daily needs. The theme of estrangement is also central to Marin's work, which counteracts the sense of excessive familiarity that dictates every day life and the marketplace.
Marin has exhibited numerous times in her native Chile and internationally.
